Personal Responsibility
"With great power comes great responsibility". This dialogue from the movie "Spiderman" sums up personal responsibility in a nutshell. Basically speaking, if you want power over your life, you need to take complete responsibility of your life. However, most times that doesn't happen. In most cultures, people have been conditioned to believe that they have no control over their lives. Their good and bad days are all a result of their past deeds, God (sometimes the devil), luck, parents, and spouse, in short anything but them. Kids are trained to ask God for everything and even blame him for everything. As a result, they never realize their true potential or power. Most of us believe in destiny but not in free will, which means that although we do things we like and choose, we refuse to shoulder the blame if things go wrong. Hence, we tend to "float" around in life in a victimized mode, which makes us lose control over life. The ground breaking movie "The secret" which introduced people to the law of attraction, says that all our circumstances, events and even our lives is a result of our own thoughts and actions. Our successes and failures are due to our own deeds and not some unknown forces. The rule is simple. What ever you do, think, plan or act, has a consequence that needs to be faced. The ability to face the results of your actions and take control over your life is known as personal responsibility. Making excuses is easy. Succumbing to your circumstances is easy. It's also easy to play the blame game or have a "pity party". The most difficult thing in the world is to own up and take responsibility of your actions. This is the best way to take the reign of your life in your hands and stop being controlled by others. Most of the behavior patterns that we exhibit are a result of habit. Our blame games, our excuses and even the "poor me" attitude is a result of an age old habit which is mostly passed on from generation to generation. Evading personal responsibility has been a way of survival for man since the early ages. When the earth was young, the primary mode of occupation was agriculture. A good crop was dependent on a number of climatic factors. This caused the man to believe that some one else controls his life. However, in spite of the progress made by man in these million years, this has been one of the most consistent habits. Nevertheless, the recent researches show us that you don't need to change a habit but merely replace it with a new habit. IT only takes about twenty one days to form a new habit! Personal responsibility helps us to evolve from a "child" to an "adult" mode. We no longer remain casual observers in our lives. We are able to control our lives according to our needs, desires, and goals and give it the direction we want. We are able to realize our dreams and map out our course in life. Once we take personal responsibility in our lives, we become more attentive of our own actions. For example, if you realize that the cause of your poor health is nothing but your own habits, you will be able to consciously change them and help your self to become healthy. On the other hand, a person who loves blaming people will blame his circumstances, friends, family and every one else except himself. Thoughts have tremendous power. A mere thought can make you deliriously happy or even cause a heart attack. However, you can control your thoughts to create the kind of life you want. Moreover, happiness, which is considered an elusive goal by many, is nothing but a state of mind. Happiness is also a result of accepting responsibility of your life, actions, and thoughts. Becoming responsible for your own life also helps you to achieve a peace of mind. You know you have the power and the ability to fulfill your dreams, which helps you to stop depending on people and luck and helps you see the opportunities available to you. Stone Catalysts toward Personal ResponsibilityThough no one can really help you to become responsible in your life, except yourself, there are a number of catalysts and aids which can help you in the process. Stones like turquoise, larimar and kyanite can help you accept responsibility for your own life. All these stones are blue in color and associated with the throat chakra. Kyanite helps your soul to mature and accept the responsibility for your own life. Larimar helps you to let go of the past and realizing your own self worth. Turquoise helps in clearing all the negative emotions and helps you to enhance your confidence. Throat chakra is associated with the color blue and is the main center as far as personal responsibility is concerned. The color blue helps you to enhance your self-confidence and faith besides helping in improving your ability to communicate with people. When the throat chakra is open, the person is able to realize their potential and constantly challenge himself or herself to perform better. Proper communication with people can help in resolving issues, healing problems and understanding our own needs and desires. Opening up the throat chakra can help us to let go of the past and step into a new future. Personal responsibility is one of the most important lessons of life. Once you are responsible for your own life and have faith in your own abilities, you will be able to scale newer heights of success and realize your true potential and your most abundant self.
